This new Geochemistry Laboratory Operator Workshop (GLOW) aims at bringing together people who are involved in running, maintaining and/or managing geochemistry laboratories in the U.K. and Ireland, whether they are technical staff (technicians, lab managers, project officers, etc.) or researchers (postdocs, research fellows, etc.). PhD students and postdoctoral researchers who wish to apply for technical positions are also welcome.
The occasions for laboratory-focused members of the community to network, share knowledge and exchange best practices are few and far between, even though such events have the potential to be extremely valuable both for the individuals who are in a laboratory support role and for their institutions. The Geochemistry Laboratory Operator Workshop would like to fill this gap and provide a space to discuss both the very practical aspects of the daily operation of a laboratory (e.g., finance, safety, relationships with manufacturers and users, etc.) and analytical techniques and practices (e.g., analysis quality control, new technical developments, instrument maintenance, etc.)
The event will take place on Monday 23rd and Tuesday 24th March 2026 in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol, before the Geochemistry Group Research in Progress (GGRiP) meeting. It will also be possible to attend remotely*. The Geochemistry Laboratory Operator Workshop is free to attend and the registration is separate from the registration for GGRiP.
